Vipers to face Botswana side as KCCA receive bye

Back to back Uganda Premier League champions Vipers have been chosen to face Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana in the CAF Champions League first round.

All this was picked during the CAF Champions League first round draw that took place on Tuesday.

The game will have first leg played in Botswana on either 18th or 19th August and the return leg on August 25th.

The Venoms eliminated both Olympic Real De Bangui and TP Mazembe respectively to qualify for the CAF Champions League group stages for the first time in the previous edition.

Jwaneng Galaxy who Vipers face lifted the Botswana Premier League title 2022/23 season title ahead of Gabarone with a big margin.

And just like Vipers the Botswana side will hope to reach the CAF Champions League group stage for the second time since the 2021/22 season

If Vipers win, they will face the winner SouthAfrica’s Orlando Pirates and Comoros’ Djabel FC.

On the other side In the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup Uganda’s representatives KCCA FC have received a bye at the first round of the Qualifiers.

A bye in football is translated as one who has been exempted from playing a particular step therefore KCCA is set to start the competition at the Second round qualification stage.

CAF made the decision basing on the on results of 2018 and 2017 placing KCCA among the 12 highest ranked teams in this year’s competition.

In the second round qualifier stage first leg that will be be played away on on 17th September, KCCA will face Tunisia’s Olympique de Béja or Libya’s Abu Salim SC (Libya) in order to get into the group stages.
