Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have strengthened their goalkeeping department with the signing of Gabon international Loyce Marius Mbaba on a two-year contract ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The experienced shot-stopper joins the Venoms as they continue to reinforce their squad for a busy campaign that will see them compete in the CAF Champions League, Uganda Premier League, Stanbic Uganda Cup and the CECAFA Kagame Cup.

Mbaba arrives at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende with an impressive résumé, having featured for Gabonese side Association Sportive Mangasport and Ivorian clubs Stella Club d’Adjamé and Bouake FC. On the international stage, he has earned 14 competitive caps for Gabon and was part of the squad that featured at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where he played in three matches.

Speaking after completing his move, the goalkeeper expressed his delight at joining the six-time Uganda Premier League champions.

“I’m really, really happy to be here and excited about what lies ahead. The ambition shown by this club to bring me here is something I don’t take for granted. I will give absolutely everything to help the club achieve even more success,” Mbaba said.

His arrival comes after the departures of Alfred Mudekereza and Bashir Ssekagya, with Vipers reshaping their squad following their Uganda Premier League triumph last season.

Mbaba is expected to battle for the number one jersey with Denis Kiggundu and Jack Komakech as the Venoms prepare for a demanding season on both the domestic and continental fronts.

The Gabonese goalkeeper becomes Vipers’ fourth signing of the current transfer window, following the arrivals of Jacques Mangoba, Nicholas Mwere and Joel Sserunjogi.

He will wear the club’s iconic number one shirt and according to the club, is set to join his new teammates immediately as preparations for the new season intensify.
