Jinja SS Look to Maintain Perfect Start Against Soroti City
Jinja SS have been the standout side in Division One so far, winning all four of their opening matches and will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run when Soroti City visit.
The Jinja-based side has already secured consecutive victories over Tornado Bees and Wanderers, with their most recent performance ending in a convincing nine-wicket triumph over Wanderers.
Soroti City, meanwhile, arrive in Jinja looking to bounce back after a narrow 13-run defeat against defending champions Olila Cricket Club.
The Soroti side had earlier shared the spoils with Olila in last weekend’s double-header.
The two teams last faced each other in the semi-final of the 2025 Lyca Women’s T20, where Soroti City produced a dominant performance to win by 54 runs and advance to the final.
Batting first after being asked to set a target, Soroti City posted 136/9 in 20 overs, with Player of the Match Jimia Abdallah Muhammed leading the charge with a well-made 36 off 29 deliveries.
Proscovia Alako added 25, while skipper Janet Mbabazi contributed 20.
Jinja SS struggled during the chase, managing 82/7 in their 20 overs. Hope Shillah Mbeiza top-scored with 18, while Elizabeth Achieng added 13.
Soroti City’s bowling attack shared the responsibility, with Anayo Christine taking 2/19, while Kevin Amuge, Naume Jane Amongin and Apolot Patricia each picked up a wicket.
Their bowling effort was complemented by excellent fielding, including two crucial runouts.
Jinja SS will once again rely on the form of Stephanie Nampiina, who has accumulated 180 runs this season, while Sheila Namagooba has been leading the bowling department with 10 wickets.
For Soroti City, the experience of Janet Mbabazi, Proscovia Alako, Jimia Abdallah Muhammed and Naume Jane Amongin will be vital as they look to become the first team to defeat Jinja SS this season.
Wanderers, Tornado Bees Fight to Revive Their Campaigns
The second fixture at Florida Cricket Oval brings together two sides desperate for a change in fortunes, with both Wanderers CC and Tornado Bees yet to register a win this season.
Wanderers suffered a nine-wicket defeat against Jinja SS in their previous outing, while Tornado Bees endured a difficult afternoon against Olila Cricket Club, falling to a heavy 152-run loss.
Saturday’s encounter offers both teams a chance to restart their campaigns and move away from the bottom of the Division One standings.
The last meeting between the sides came in the group stage of the 2025 Lyca Women’s T20, where Tornado Bees secured a comfortable six-wicket victory at the Akbar Baig Cricket Ground.
Wanderers, batting first after being asked to set a total, were restricted to 73/9 in their 20 overs.
Irene Mutonyi was the top scorer with 20 runs, while Patricia Lydia Agwang led Tornado Bees’ bowling attack with impressive figures of 3/10.
Ann Nyapendi claimed 2/11, Hope Wanichan took 2/8 and Lynette Nakato added one wicket as Tornado Bees kept control throughout the innings.
In response, Tornado Bees chased down the target in 18.3 overs, losing four wickets along the way. Player of the Match Ann Nyapendi anchored the successful chase with an unbeaten 29, while Jackline Nakayovu finished unbeaten on 11 to complete the victory.
Wanderers’ best bowling effort came from Irene Mutonyi, who returned figures of 2/20.
Tornado Bees will once again look towards Ann Nyapendi to provide stability with the bat, while Wanderers will hope experienced players like Irene Mutonyi can inspire a turnaround and help the team finally get their season underway.
A Crucial Weekend for Division One
With only Division One matches on the schedule, Saturday’s fixtures carry significant importance.
Jinja SS will be aiming to strengthen their position at the top of the table, while Soroti City will be determined to keep pressure on the league leaders.
At Florida Cricket Oval, either Wanderers or Tornado Bees will leave with their first win of the season, adding extra importance to a fixture that could shape the direction of both teams’ campaigns.
