Husina Kobugabe was beaten out of the singles category of the Uganda International series Round of 16 stage at the MTN Arena in Lugogo on Friday.
This is the second International Badminton tournament hosted by Uganda in two weeks time following the just concluded Kampala International series which yielded 13 medals for Uganda.
The tournament that served off on Thursday 5th October, 2023 has advanced to a quarter final stage where a couple of Ugandans will be battling for a place in the semi finals this Saturday .
First on court will be Brian Kasirye who won gold in the Men’s singles at the Kampala international future series will be in action against Mexican Luis Ramon Garrido at 9am.
This will be followed by an all Ugandan affair in the women’s singles, in one of the most anticipated matchups of the day Fadilah Shamika Mohamed Rafi will face off against Gladys Mbabazi.
Fadilah or ‘Namubiru’ as some of her peers call her missed out on the Kampala series and seems to be fired up for this one and she will also be playing in the women’s doubles against a SouthAfrican dual with her Partner Tracy Naluwooza.
ForteBet Realstar awards Badminton player of the month in September Husina Kobugabe missed out on a place in the quarterfinals in the ladies’ singles but will have a chance to redeem herself in the doubles when she faces a Russian dual with her partner Gladys Mbabazi.
In total, Ugandan players will be involved in 16 quarter final matchups with only 3players in the singles.
Saturday QF fixtures
This tournament is sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation and and is a route for 2024 Paris Olympics qualification.
The Finals will be on Sunday 8th October, 2024 at MTN indoor arena in Lugogo.
