Fadilah Shamika: Teenage sensation sets target for Uganda International Series


Uganda badminton teenage sensation Fadilah Shamika set her target in the ongoing Uganda International Future Series at the MTN Lugogo Arena.

However before setting her targets, Shamika regretted not taking part in the Kampala International Future Series that climaxed on Sunday 1st October 2023.

The 2023 All Africa Badminton Senior Championships individual title winner thinks she would have gained more experience in the Kampala International Future Series going on to say;

“I am prepared to play the Uganda International unfortunately I missed out on the Kampala International something that was disturbing on my side.” Shamika said

Adding, “I believe if I had played the tournament I would have got more experience to play better in this tournament however I used this time to train inorder to eliminate any excuses”

“In the tournament, I hope reach the semifinals or finals of the Uganda International because I feel have trained and worked a lot for this so that I can play my game and also bring back a medal”

“In addition to that am fit for this tournament, these are the same players I met in West African countries and I will be meeting some of the again and hope to put up a show” she concluded 

Just like the recently concluded Kampala International, Uganda International Series is a 2024 Paris Olympic qualifying tournament that started on Thursday 5th October and set to climax on Sunday 8th October.

The tournament holds a total number of 26 countries United Arab Emirates, Malta, Poland, South Africa, United Kingdom, USA, Italy among others and will have 180 players take part in the event (100 men and 80 Women).

On Thursday (Day One), there were 24 players who went through from the qualifying rounds to join the 8 at round of 32 which will be served off on Friday.

Having won 13 medals in the previous tournament, the hosts of Uganda will have their hopes high from players like;

The September Fortebet Real Stars best Badminton player, Husina Kobugabe, Shamika, Tracy Naluwooza, Gladys Mbabazi in the women. In the men, all eyes will focus seed one’s twice gold medalist Brian Kasirye in the Kampala International and Muzafaru Lubega.
