Uganda’s Muzafaru Lubega and Gladys Mbabazi won bronze in the Mixed Doubles at the 9th Lagos International Badminton Classics in Nigeria on Saturday.

The Ugandan pair secured a place on the podium after a strong run at the tournament, held from August 26 to 29 at Okoya Thomas Hall inside Teslim Balogun Stadium.

Lubega and Mbabazi showed good coordination and determination throughout the competition, winning their earlier matches to reach the semi-finals.

Their run to the final was halted by India’s S. R. Kanapuram and partner in the semi-finals. Although they fell short of a place in the final, the result earned them a valuable bronze medal against strong international opposition.

The podium finish adds to Uganda’s growing presence on the continental badminton scene and provides valuable ranking points on the BWF circuit.

For Lubega and Mbabazi, the medal is also a reward for their continued partnership as they look ahead to more international competitions.
