In a riveting encounter at the Kyambogo UPK grounds, Wakiso Giants showcased their prowess by triumphing over Kyambogo FC, securing a spot in the round of 32 in the prestigious Stanbic Uganda Cup.
The clash between the top-flight club and the fourth-division team provided a compelling narrative, highlighting the essence of determination and resilience in sports.
Kyambogo FC initiated the scoring with an early goal from a corner in the third minute, skillfully converted by Corney Kegere. For the first fifteen minutes, the hosts held their ground, displaying commendable endurance.
However, as the game progressed, their stamina waned, allowing Wakiso Giants to seize control.
In the 22nd minute, Samson A. Kigozi leveled the score for Wakiso Giants, signaling a shift in momentum.
The purple sharks further asserted their dominance as Kenneth Kimera netted a goal in the 39th minute, concluding the first half with a lead.
The second half saw Wakiso Giants extending their advantage because fitness had stated catching up with most of the players, with Kenneth Kimera securing another goal in the 52nd minute.
Despite Kyambogo FC’s efforts, the hosts couldn’t mount a comeback.
The conclusive blow came at the end of the game, with Marvin Nyanzi netting the fourth goal for Wakiso Giants, solidifying their journey to the round of 32.
Reflecting on Kyambogo FC’s journey, Coach Kiwomya Julius acknowledged his team’s respectful approach to the opponents.
While the first 15 minutes showcased their ability to manage the game, the eventual loss did not diminish their pride.
Coach Julius expressed gratitude for his players’ unwavering efforts, recognizing their perseverance.
