The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed a new venue for the 52nd Stanbic Uganda Cup final between Kitara FC and SC Villa, with the highly anticipated clash now set to be played at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
The final will take place on Saturday, May 30, with kickoff scheduled for 4 PM, while the date of the fixture remains unchanged despite the venue adjustment.
The decision follows concerns raised by Kitara FC after FUFA had initially designated FUFA Stadium Kadiba as the host venue for the final.
Kitara questioned the choice, arguing that Kadiba could offer an advantage to SC Villa, who have frequently used the stadium for their league and cup matches this season.
In a communication signed by FUFA Competitions Director Shawn Mubiru, the federation stated that the switch to Njeru was made in the interest of fairness and to ensure a neutral playing environment for both clubs.
The final presents a major opportunity for both sides as they battle not only for silverware but also a place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
For Kitara FC, the match represents another milestone in the club’s rapid rise within Ugandan football. The Royals are set to play their second Uganda Cup final in three years after winning the 2023/24 edition against NEC FC.
SC Villa, meanwhile, will be aiming to add a 10th Uganda Cup title to their decorated history. The Jogoos last lifted the trophy in 2015 after defeating KCCA FC in the final.
SC Villa booked their place in the final after eliminating URA FC 3-0 on aggregate in the semifinals, while Kitara edged Vipers SC on the away goals rule following a tightly contested two-legged semifinal tie.
The Uganda Cup remains the country’s oldest knockout football competition, having been played since 1971 and featuring participation from clubs across different divisions of Ugandan football.
With both clubs carrying strong ambitions into the final, attention now shifts to Njeru where one of Uganda’s most prestigious domestic trophies will once again be up for grabs.
