KCCA FC host Onduparaka FC in the Round of 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup at Lugogo, with the hosts entering the tie as favourites.
The Kasasiro Boys boast a strong home record and head into the knockout clash in excellent form, having won their last six matches in all competitions. Forward Ivan Ahimbisibwe will be the man to watch after scoring seven goals in his last eight appearances.
Captain Fillbert Obenchan, who netted the winner against Mbarara City FC in the previous round, is expected to lead the defence as KCCA aim to maintain their momentum.
Visitors Onduparaka, currently competing in the FUFA Big League, arrive as underdogs but with a reputation for upsetting bigger sides. Attackers Jimmy Pirio and Jonathan Mungufeni will be relied upon to deliver the goals.
The Caterpillars could also draw inspiration from their dramatic 2–2 draw with KCCA in May 2023. In this knockout tie, a stalemate after 90 minutes will lead straight to a penalty shootout—an area where Onduparaka have already succeeded this season after eliminating Football Classroom FC.
KCCA co-head coach Jackson Magera has cautioned his side against complacency.
“In a knockout competition, there are no second chances. We have been working on the group’s focus because one lapse can end our journey. The hunger in the squad is deep, and the lads know that if we are to progress in this competition, we must be clinical and disciplined.”
