UBA launches first ever Badminton League in Africa


The Uganda Badminton Association relaunched the National Badminton League with three classes on Saturday at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

These classes will include the National Super league, National Corporate league with six teams and the Schools league.

National Super League will have the elites, the National Corporate league will have six team and Schools league will have to resume after the Schools open.

Elite Clubs to play in the National Super League include;

Kampala Badminton Club A

Kampala Badminton Club B

Victoria University Warriors

Entebbe Institute Club

Mbogo Warriors

Ndejje University

CFK Patriots BC

Corporate Clubs

CFK Corporates

Mbogo Warriors

After an early launch of the Badminton league in 2011, this is its second and the Association Chairperson Annet Nakamya promised that this is going to be a better version of the championship and will be played with swagger.

“The league will help UBA to identify more talent and provide the players with a platform to check their performance levels every weekend.” she said

“It will happen twice in a week and will be played in a round robin format implying teams will face each other on a home and away basis but with Lugogo as the neutral ground.” she added and concluded.

Teams will face off in the singles, doubles, and mixed doubles with a team that wins the tie, bagging three points and each team taking one point in case of a tie draw.

The respective leagues will be played for a period of eight months with aim of giving the players more experience and game time as they look forward to prepare for different tournaments.
