The Uganda National U20 team, the Hippos has been pitted against hosts of the African U20 Cup of Nations ( U20 AFCON) Championships, Mauritania in group A alongside Cameroon and Mozambique in group A.
The 16th edition of the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations was recently expanded from eight teams to a 12 team tournament with three groups each comprising of four teams.
The teams in group B are Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Namibia and the Central African Republic whereas group C is comprised of Ghana, Gambia, Morocco and Tanzania.
The Hippos qualified to the tournament after emerging as the champions of the regional CECAFA tournament held in Rwanda in 2020 beating hosts Tanzania in the finals.
The team is currently in camp and are conducting their training sessions at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo under coach Morley Byekwaso.
This year’s African U20 Cup of Nations tournament will be held in Mauritania from the 14th of February to the 6th of March.
