The Uganda U-20 Women’s National Team (Queen Cranes), delivered a historic performance on Saturday to defeat Zambia U-20 Women’s National Team 1–0 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium and book their place in the final round of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

Uganda advanced 2–1 on aggregate, having drawn 1–1 in the first leg at the FUFA Stadium, Kadiba last week.

Head Coach Sheryl Botes made one change from the first leg, introducing Imelda Kasemire in midfield for Krusum Namutebi. The adjustment paid early dividends as the visitors started brightly and stunned the hosts in the seventh minute. Mary Kantono capitalised on a well-delivered cross to score what would prove to be the decisive goal.

Zambia responded strongly after the break, pressing for an equaliser on home turf. However, the Queen Cranes remained disciplined and compact in defence, managing the game effectively to secure a famous away victory.

Speaking after the match, Botes praised her players’ character and belief, noting that they had been warned about Zambia’s formidable home record but refused to be intimidated. She dedicated the win to Ugandans and thanked Moses Magogo for his continued support of women’s football.

Uganda will now face Ghana U-20 Women’s National Team in the final qualifying round in May, with a place at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup at stake.
