Wakiso Giants moved top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League log on Friday evening after defeating Gaddafi 2-0 at the Kabaka Kyabbagu Stadium.

Shariph Kimbowa and Rahmat Ssenfuka scored the two important goals for the Purple Sharks to cruise past the Solider Boys.

Wakiso Giants dominated the early exchanges of the game but struggled to break down the Gaddafi defense.

The game’s first realistic chance at goal came in the 22nd minute, but Kimbowa failed to capitalize after Nicholas Kasozi’s loose pass. The striker failed to get his effort past Joel Mutakubwa- the Express FC goalkeeper.

Gaddafi though, got the breakthrough just before the break from the spot after Ibrahim Kasule went down in the box after being fouled by Godfrey Lwesibawa. Kimbowa stepped up to calmly send the goalkeeper the wrong way and slot home to give his side the lead.

The game went into the break with the hosts leading 1-0

Gaddafi returned for the second half a much improved side and almost levelled matters soon afterwards but Samson Kirya made a brilliant save to deny Lwesibawa.

Mahad Yaya Kakooza was also unlucky for Gaddafi as he curried his effort just inches wide.

From a break though in the 75th minute, Wakiso Giants doubled their advantage through substitute Ssenfuka, who tapped in from a rebound following Moses Aliro’s shot that was parried back into play by Mutakubwa.

Kasule had a chance to triple the Purple Sharks lead in the later exchanges of the game but he was denied by Mutakubwa, who rushing off the line to block the attacking midfielder’s effort.

Having picked up the vital three points, Wakiso Giants move top of the log on 17 points in eight games.

For Gaddafi, they remain ninth on the log with nine points in seven games.

Wakiso plays Onduparaka  next while Gaddafi plays Arua Hill.
