Yunus Sentamu and Karim Watambala were on target for Vipers SC as they defeated SC Villa 2-0 in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League played on Tuesday.
Sentamu opened the scoring in the opening half while Watambala came off the bench to cement the Venoms victory in the closing half and also subject Villa to a second consecutive loss.
The opening half was far from interesting but Vipers went into the break leading courtesy of Sentamu’s strike.
The talisman scored from a rebound in the 22nd minute after Meddie Kibiringe failed to collect a teasing Bright Anukani’s freekick.
After from that strike, both teams struggled to create any real cut-chances upfront.
Less than 10 after the break, Villa were reduced to 10 men as Davis Ssekajja was sent off by center referee Ssali Mashood for a second bookable offense on Milton Karisa.
Despite playing with a man less, Villa looked a better side in the second half and had a couple of chances to level matters, only to be denied by Alfred Mudekereza.
The Vipers’ Congolese goalie denied Patrick Jonah Kakande just after the hour mark before parrying away Travis Mutyaba’s ferocious strike moments later.
Just before the end of the game though, Karim Watambala doubled the Venoms lead with a wonderful strike from outside the box that oozed past a helpless Kibiringe.
Vipers have now won five games in a row and now sit second on the log with 20 points in nine.
For Villa, they lose their second consecutive game after having also lost 3-0 to KCCA on Friday.
Vipers play Gaddafi next in Jinja while Villa hosts Maroons in Lira.
