Uganda Police Football Club has gone top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League standings after they defeated Kyetume FC 3-1 at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on a rainy Friday evening.

In a game that was delayed for over 20 minutes due to the heavy downpours before the match, Kyetume started the game the brightest side and had their first attempt at goal in the second minute when Ezira Bida’s effort from outside the box was easily kept out by Derrick Ochan in the Police goal.

Police then scored with their first shot on target when forward Johnson Odong’s feeble shot from outside the box in the 20th minute somehow found its way into the back of the net after it caught Joel Mutakubwa unaware in the Kyetume goal.

A few moments later, Kyetume wasted an incredible chance to level matters When Sharif Saaka placed the ball agonizingly wide after being brilliantly spotted by Ezira Bida.

Police extended their lead in the 35th minute after Odong turned Richard Matovu inside out to powerfully bullet his shot towards the Kyetume goal. Mutakubwa parried the shot back into play and Muwadda Mawejje reacted first to extend the Cops’ lead.

With just three minutes to the halftime break, Kyetume pulled a goal back when Baker Buyala rebounded a loose ball into the top left corner.

The game went into the break with the home side holding a slight 2-1 lead over the visitors.

Police could have extended their advantage early in the second half but Johnson Odong failed to connect well with Ruben Kimera’s delightful cross from the left.

In the 70th minute,  Police’s Henry Katongole almost gifted the Slaughterers an equaliser, but Ochan made a goal line to keep the cops in the lead.

But three minutes later, debutant Brian Mululi capitalized on Mustafa Mujjuzi and Joshua Kigozi’s poor defending to guide the ball past Mutakubwa for Police’s third of the game.

January recruit, Mululi had a chance to complete his brace in  the 83rd minute but saw his looping header go just meters above the bar after a nice Muwadda cross from the right.

With today’s win, Police FC is now top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with 13 points garnered in six games while Kyetume, who have suffered their first league loss of the season stay seventh with nine points.
