StarTimes UPL: KCCA reclaim top spot with victory over Mbarara City

KCCA have reclaimed the top spot of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

This is after they narrowly defeated Mbarara city 1-0 in a game played on Wednesday evening at MTN Omondi Stadium.

Herbert Achai netted the all important goal to secure maximum points to reclaim top spot after Vipers SC lost 1-0 to Arua Hill yesterday.

With just 50 seconds in, Achai put his side into the lead after his strike from outside found the back of the net after Mbarara City Custodian Martin Elungat mishandled it.

Despite going down early on in the game, Mbarara was the better side of the opening half as they caused problems to Kasasiro Boys backline throughout the opening 45 minutes

Solomon Okwalinga had his attempt saved by Derrick Ochan in the fourth minute before the KCCA custodian parried away Okwalinga’s freekick moments later.

Sadat Anaku had two brilliant chances to double KCCA’s lead but Elungat was excellent on both occasions to deny the forward.

The Mbarara City custodian saved Anaku’s effort in the 9th minute before acrobatically parrying away Anaku’s effort to the corner at half-hour mark.

An entertaining first half saw Mbarara dominant but KCCA went to the break just ahead.

At the start of the closing half, KCCA FC head coach Morley Byekwaso made a double change to his side, bringing on Usama Arafati and Davis Kasirye for Samson Kigozi and Brian Aheebwa respective.

With the double introduction, KCCA started dominating some of the proceedings trying to double their advantage.

Mbarara tried to get any equaliser late on in the game but KCCA held on to secure the victory.

With the victory, KCCA move top of the log with 31 points in 13 games and are now two points above Vipers SC.

Mbarara City remain 12th on the log with 14 points from 14games.
