A goalless draw was the outcome of a Kampala derby devoid of few serious moments of real quality from Express or KCCA.
In a cagey first half dominated much by KCCA, the Kasasiro Boys had the best chances but failed to get the ball past Express goalkeeper Denis Otim.
Ashraf Mugume had the first attempt of the game when he blazed his effort high and wide on the 18 minutes after pouncing on a loose ball.
While Sadat Anaku had his header brilliantly saved by Otim in the 34th minute following a long throw-in by Brian Majwega.
Express best goalscoring chance fell to Charles Musiige who missed from close range after being set up by Eric Kambale following a Sadik Ssekyemba’s corner.
Express also made an early change, bringing on Deus Bukenya for already booked Isa Lumu in the 17th minute. Lumu had earlier being cautioned by Ali Sabila for a foul on Anaku.
With the scores nil-nil, both head coaches made changes at the start of the closing half. Davis Kasirye came on for Gift Ali for KCCA while Martin Kizza and Enock Ssebagala came on for the Wasswa Bbosa’s coached side.
Just like the first, KCCA had the first attempt of the second as Herbert Achai was at unlucky end after his sublime long strike went few inches off the target.
From a quick counter-attack, Anaku had a chance to break the deadlock for KCCA, but once again Otim was brilliant to parry away the KCCA forward’s ferocious shot to a corner kick.
Express got lucky again in the 80th minute as Roger Mato rattled the bottom.post with Otim well beaten after Anaku’s shot.
With today’s goalless stalemate, the two sides have now drawn all of their last five meetings.
Consecutive draws means KCCA stay unbeaten and top of the StarTimes UPL log but they are now just two points ahead of Vipers SC, who have played a game less.
Express remain fifth on the log with 20 points in 12 games.
KCCA play Onduparaka next away from home while Express will host Busoga United
