Vipers forward and skipper Milton Karisa scored the solitary goal for Vipers SC as they overcame Arua Hill in a Uganda Premier League game played at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Karisa’s goal came in 19th minute as he was exquisitely found by Bright Anukani to dink past the on-rushing Richard Anyama and secure maximum points for Vipers SC in an entertaining game.
The Venoms started off the game the brightest and had a couple of chances to break the deadlock earlier on.
Cromwell Rwothomio had his header cleared off the line by Richard Matovu before Ashraf Mandela shot cleanly, but his effort was parried away by Arua Hill goalkeeper Richard Anyama.
Vipers goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza was much of the opening half untested as Arua Hill forwards struggled to cause any meaningful pressures towards his goal.
Still in the opening half, Vipers suffered a blow as Mandela was rushed off the pitch after having collided terribly with Rashid Kawawa in the air. He was replaced by Ibrahim Orit.
The game went into the break wtb the hosts leading 1-0 and at the start of the second, Arua Hill head coach Livingstone Mbabazi made two immediate changes to bring on Innocent Maduka and Sam Ssekamate for Kawawa and Jacob Kamwesigye respectively.
It was only until that moment that Arua Hill created their first meaningful attempt at goal but Ogwang put the ball wide after being found unmarked in the box by Gadaffi Wahab.
Vipers had a chance to double their advantage in the later exchanges of the game but Matovu made a last ditch clearance to deny Cromwell from tapping home following Karisa’s lay-up.
With the earned victory, Vipers move above Arua Hill on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League log as they now have 11 points in six games.
For Arua Hill, they drop to seventh place with 10 points in six games.
Vipers play UPDF FC next at home while Arua Hill hosts SC Villa.
