Kitara FC maintained their unbeaten start to the Uganda Premier League season after playing out a 1-1 draw with Police FC at Kiira Police Arena on Tuesday.

The Hoima-based side took an early lead through Gadafi Wahab but were forced to settle for a point after Police fought back, with Tabu Oryem restoring parity in the 74th minute.

The result leaves Kitara and BUL FC as the only unbeaten teams in the league following SC Villa’s 2-1 defeat to BUL, which ended the Jogoos’ unbeaten run.

Wasswa Bbosa’s men made a bright start and broke the deadlock in the 10th minute when Wahab calmly guided the ball into the net to give the visitors an early advantage.

Kitara nearly doubled their lead in the 23rd minute through Jemba Ramsey, whose long-range effort was pushed behind for a corner by Police goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige.

The visitors came close again from the resulting set-piece when Biafula Muhammade’s delivery struck the goal frame before Police cleared their lines.

Police, who were looking to respond after their humiliating 6-1 defeat to SC Villa, gradually improved but struggled to find a breakthrough in a physical contest.

Assistant coach Ahmad Olima was in charge of the Cops in the absence of head coach Matia Lule.

Their persistence eventually paid off in the 74th minute when Tabu Oryem delivered a dangerous ball into the Kitara area, allowing Bedia Ikamba to get the decisive touch and bring Police level.

Neither side could find a winning goal as the contest ended in a stalemate.

Despite dropping points, Kitara climbed two places to eighth with 12 points from six matches. They have also registered three wins and three draws, with four games in hand.

Police remain sixth with 15 points from 10 matches, having missed the opportunity to move further up the standings.

Kitara will return to action on Saturday, November 7, when they host URA FC as they seek to extend their unbeaten run.

However, the Royals are yet to settle on their home venue following the government’s halt on their use of Hoima City Stadium. A possible return to Butema is among the options being considered.

Police, meanwhile, will next face KCCA FC on November 20 after the international break, with the Cops hoping to build on Tuesday’s point.
