Cranes midfielder Allan Okello has officially completed a major transfer from Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC to Tanzanian powerhouse Young Africans SC (Yanga), marking one of the most significant moves by a Ugandan player in recent years.

The 25-year-old creative midfielder, a key figure for both Vipers and the Uganda Cranes, concluded the deal on Monday, bringing to an end a successful and influential spell at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende. Vipers confirmed Okello’s departure in an official statement, acknowledging his contributions during a trophy-laden period for the club.

Okello was unveiled by Yanga in a club presentation video, proudly wearing the team’s iconic green and yellow colours as supporters welcomed him ahead of the next chapter in his career.

During his time at Vipers, Okello played a central role in the club’s domestic success, helping the side clinch the Uganda Premier League and Stanbic Uganda Cup in the 2024/25 season. He finished that campaign as the league’s top scorer, a rare feat for a midfielder, and was a standout creative force with 24 goals and 13 assists in competitive action.

Okello’s move to Yanga not only represents a personal milestone but also signals the Tanzanian champions’ intent to strengthen their squad as they pursue both domestic titles and continental success. The transfer follows interest from several clubs in the region and caps a drawn-out negotiation between Yanga and Vipers, with both sides navigating contract details and terms before reaching an agreement.

In an emotional farewell, Okello thanked Vipers supporters for their support during his tenure at the club, highlighting the memorable moments and experiences shared over the past two and a half seasons.

The move to Yanga places Okello on a bigger regional stage, where he will look to further his development and help his new club excel in Tanzania’s Premier League and continental competitions.
