The highly anticipated clash between Soroti City Cricket Club and Avenger Cricket Club unfolded at Lugogo Cricket Oval following the no result in the first game due to a wet outfield where both teams shared a point each.

Notably, the UCA Men’s T20 league Division Two features a double-header format, with both matches played on the same day.

Soroti Cricket Academy, after winning the toss in the afternoon fixture, opted to bat first—a decision that proved pivotal in their eventual victory by 7 runs.

Despite an early setback with Apollo Jospeh’s dismissal in the first over, Soroti City displayed resilience.

Ochen Peter’s impressive innings of 43 off 24, supported by notable contributions from Ogwang Wilfred (18 off 22) and Okiror Stephen (20 off 17), enabled them to set a formidable total of 135/7 in 20 overs.

Avengers Cricket Club showcased commendable bowling efforts, with Pravin Gadnvi and Harsh Panchal taking 3 and 2 wickets respectively.

However, during Avengers’ chase, Soroti City’s fielding prowess, exemplified by a stunning catch from Derick Bakunzi to dismiss Harsh Panchal, shifted the momentum back in their favor.

Despite a valiant effort from Avengers’ batters, including contributions from Utkarsh Kothari (23 off 16) and Shubang Rao (20 off 28), they fell short by 7 runs, being bundled out for 128 in 18.4 overs.

Among the bowlers for Soroti City, Ochen Peter showcased exceptional economy with a figure of 3.82 on the day, while also securing two crucial wickets. He was ably supported by Malinga Jacob, who also contributed with three wickets.

Additionally, Ogwang Wilfred’s bowling prowess was evident as he bowled a maiden over in the 14th, taking two wickets in the process.

This proved to be a turning point for the team, as his spell halted the momentum of Avengers’ key batsmen, including the dangerous Harsh Panchal and Otim Solomon.

Both batsmen were dismissed thanks to consecutive catches by Bakunzi Derrick at Covers, highlighting the importance of fielding in Soroti’s victory.

This victory propels Soroti City Cricket Club to the top of the table with 7 points from 4 games, having won three and drawn one. Ochen Peter leads the batting statistics table with 115 runs from two innings.

Looking ahead, Soroti Cricket Club is set to face SKLPS Cricket Club on March 10th in what promises to be another exciting encounter.
