In a gripping display of cricketing prowess, Challengers Cricket Club and reigning champions IPRC Kigali Cricket Club find themselves locked in a fierce competition for the coveted RCA T10 Championship title.

With both teams securing victories in their initial two encounters, Challengers currently edges ahead with a superior net run rate, clinching the top spot while IPRC trails closely in second place.

In the opening match, held at the Gahanga Cricket Stadium, Challengers CC showcased their tactical acumen against Indorwa Cricket Club.

Challengers CC, winning the toss, strategically opted to bowl first and executed their plan flawlessly, restricting Indorwa to a mere 67/4 in 10 overs.

Hirwa Eric Dusabemungu made a significant contribution, scoring 30 off 21 before being caught by Martin Akayezu off the bowling of Ugandan sensation Sirge Nsubuga, who concluded his spell with a solitary wicket for Challengers.

Additionally, Eric Niyomugabo and Martin Akayezu also made crucial breakthroughs, further tightening Challengers’ grip on the game.

Challengers’ batting prowess was on full display during the chase, with Martin Akayezu’s unbeaten 30 off 16 leading the charge.

Despite valiant efforts from Indorwa’s bowlers, including Hirwa Eric Dusabemungu and Yves Cyusa, Challengers sealed the win with ease.

In the afternoon fixture, IPRC Kigali, after winning the toss, opted to bat first against Right Guards Cricket Club.

Their formidable batting lineup, anchored by Niyomugabo Isaie’s composed 21 off 21 and Jean Pierre Rukundo’s explosive 23 off 11, propelled them to a commanding total of 91/6 in 10 overs.

Although Right Guards’ bowlers, Taga Dennis Mukama and Ezechiel Muhawenimana, managed to pick up two wickets each, the damage had already been done.

Despite a spirited effort in their batting innings, with Orchide Tuyisenge and Wilson Niyitanga leading the charge with scores of 20 off 17 and 17 off 14 respectively, Right Guards fell short, managing only 80/7 in the allotted overs.

As the dust settles after the second matchday of the RCA Men’s T10 League, Challengers Cricket Club stands atop the table with four points, closely trailed by IPRC Kigali in second place, also with four points.

Niyomugabo Isaie, representing IPRC Kigali, leads the batting statistics table with an impressive tally of 55 runs from just two innings, showcasing his prowess with the bat.

Meanwhile, Taga Dennis Mukama of Right Guards CC emerges as the standout bowler, claiming the most wickets in the tournament so far.

With four wickets to his name from two games, Mukama has demonstrated his bowling prowess, delivering impactful performances over the course of four overs.

The anticipation continues to build as the tournament resumes next Sunday, February 18th, with thrilling matchups including Challengers CC vs Zonic Tigers CC, Indorwa CC vs Right Guards CC, and Kutchi Tigers CC vs IPRC Kigali CC.
