Pirates 7-5 Heathens

Stanbic Pirates staged a remarkable comeback to defeat old rivals Heathens to clinch Mbale 7s title.

After a lackluster performance in Entebbe, the Nile Special 7s Series’ perennial powerhouses—Hippos, Kobs, Heathens, and Pirates—restored their dominance in Mbale, all securing spots in the Cup Semifinals.

Heathens, who had slumped to 5th in Entebbe, and Pirates, who finished 7th, both made impressive turnarounds to set up a thrilling final.

In contrast, last weekend’s semifinalists, Rhinos and Buffaloes, were knocked out in the Cup Quarterfinals, while Walukuba and Mongers faltered in the pool stages.

Despite low attendance, the Pirates emerged as men’s champions, defeating Heathens 7-5 in the Cup Final.

The Sea Robbers came from behind to secure victory after Heathens converted first.

Hippos took bronze, beating Kobs 24-12, while the Avengers triumphed over the Black Pearls in the Women’s Final.

The series continues next weekend at Kyadondo 7s, where Heathens will aim for gold on their home ground.
