Match result/ FINAL
Soroti City 125/6 (Alako 43, Mbabazi 18, Akiteng 1/12, Icumar 1/15) beat Olila CC 109/8 (Ariokot 33, Kulume 32, Anyipo 2/22, Timong 2/11) by 16 runs
Soroti City defended their Women’s T20 League title in an exciting match against sister side Olila Cricket Club at Lugogo Cricket Oval, clinching victory by 16 runs.
In the highly anticipated SCA derby final, Olila entered the match with an unbeaten record and pushed the defending champions to the very last over.
After winning the toss, Olila opted to bowl first.
Soroti City started steadily, and despite losing a few wickets early on, they managed to keep the scoreboard ticking until they put 125/6 in the 20 alloted overs.
Proscovia Alako was the standout performer, smashing an explosive 43 runs off 22 balls, making her the top scorer of the final and player of match.
Olila will rue their poor fielding, as they dropped Alako two times at long-on, allowing her to capitalize on the errors.
Their ground fielding also faltered, with several balls slipping through, enabling Soroti City to cross the psychological winning total of 100-run mark.
In their chase, Olila struggled to find momentum, with their batting lineup failing to form sustainable partnerships.
A 42-run stand between captain Phiona Kulume (32) and Malisa Ariokot (33) offered some resistance, but it wasn’t enough as they fell short by 16 runs.
Olila’s top order lacked intent in the early overs, putting pressure on the middle and lower order to recover.
At one stage, they were reeling at 37/3 after 10 overs, which made the chase even more challenging.
Despite the competition on the field, the spirit of unity was evident as Soroti City celebrated their victory with a communal feast.
Both teams, wearing Soroti Cricket Academy shirts, shared in the celebrations, including cake-cutting, symbolizing their shared love for the game.
With this win, Soroti City marks their second consecutive title, while Olila will have to wait for another shot at adding to their 2017 title.
