Pilsner UPL Awards: Tamale, Isabirye named May best

Maroons goalkeeper Simon Tamale and Vipers head coach Alex Isabirye are the Pilsner Uganda Premier League player and coach of the month of May respectively.

The duo were announced and awarded as winners on Thursday evening during the glamorous event held at Kati Kati Restaurant, Lugogo.

Tamale kept four clean sheets in the five games he played in in May to beat off competition from KCCA’s Rogers Kassim Mato and Busoga United’s Basham Mugwa. Mato scored four goals in five games while in the same games, Basham had three goals.

Isabirye meanwhile helped Vipers SC win the StarTimes Uganda Premier League after winning four of his side’s last seven games to beat off competition from URA’s Sam Timbe and Arua Hill’s Livingstone Mbabazi to win the monthly award.

At the same ceremony, the date and venue for the Pilsner UPL End of the Season awards was announced by the UPL CEO Bernard Bainamani.

The Awards will take place at Kati Kati Restaurant on Wednesday, 28th June 2023.

Players and coaches from 13 categories that have been lined up will be rewarded and recognized that day.

The Player’s player of the Season and Coach’s Player of the Season awards will be determined by the players and head coaches.

The Best Players of the Season award will be nominated and voted by the public, technical panel and other stakeholders.

Other awards will automatically chosen according to statistics like Top Goalscorer of the season and Most Assists Awards.
