Pepsi UFL Awards: Were, Nkumba come out on top

The Pepsi University Football league selected the best players of the Decade and last season at the UFL Awards Gala on Wednesday at the Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala.

The event was graced by the Uganda Cranes coach Multin Sedrejovic alias Micho, University League Football president Vicent Kisenyi, Chairman Obal Atubo and AUUS President  Peninah Kabenge.

In a decade award event that was dominated Nkumba University and former Uganda Christian University captain Derrick Were who won four awards including the best goal keeper, best player, Inspirational award and also was included in the team of the decade.

Yasser Mugerwa who used to feature for Nkumba University walked away with the best midfielder just Douglas Muganga who played for the same side taking home the defender of the decade.

For Faisal Muwawu also from Nkumba, he topped the scoring chats of the University Football League in the decade with 21 and was awarded for the achievement.

However it was Siraje Musindo formerly at Mbarara University of Science and Technology was named and awarded as the forward of the decade.

Charles Ayiekoh of Makerere University Business School was named coach of the decade while Joseph Ssekandi of Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi the sports tutor.

Despite Nkumba scooping all the awards, Uganda Marytrs University, Nkozi won the team of the decade.

Emmanuel Were (UCU)-(GK), Gift Fred (Bugema), Kawawulo Ismail (MUBS), Muganga Douglas (Nkumba), Akabwai Geoffrey (KIU), Mugerwa Yasser (Nkumba), Kaye Kizito (UCU), Mutyaba Muzamir (KU), Owori Douglas (Uganda Martyrs), Musindo Siraje (MUST), Okot Moses (Uganda Martyrs)

One the other side, Bruno Bunyaga was awarded the top scorer’s award of last season after topping the chart going on to win the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
