Kyaggwe County dominated the October edition of the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards, with three of their key figures recognised following the county’s historic maiden Masaza Cup triumph.

Head coach Ronald Ssali and Kyagwe County Chief, Ssekiboobo Vincent Matovu, received Football Lifetime Achievement Awards, while striker George Kato was named the Football Real Star of the Month for October.

The awards ceremony took place on Tuesday, November 3, at Molecule Restaurant in Kololo, Kampala, with the trio recognised for their contributions to a historic campaign that ended Kyagwe’s 22-year wait for the Masaza Cup trophy.

Kyaggwe secured their maiden title after overcoming record winners Gomba 1-0 in Saturday’s final, with Kato scoring the decisive goal to seal the championship.

Ssali etched his name in Kyagwe’s history books by becoming the first coach to guide the county to Masaza Cup glory, while Matovu was recognised for his continued support of the team throughout previous campaigns.

Speaking after receiving his award, Ssekiboobo Matovu thanked God, the organisers and everyone who contributed to Kyagwe’s success.

“I start by thanking God because, if it were not for God’s love, we would not have won the trophy,” he said.

He also applauded Fortebet and Jude Colour Solutions for supporting the awards before insisting that Kyaggwe’s ambition extends beyond their maiden triumph.

“For the Masaza Cup fraternity, this is just the beginning. We cannot be like other Masaza teams that win and rest. We want to continue winning, and next year our hunger will be even greater,” he added.

Elsewhere, Vanessa Nagawa was named the Boxing Real Star of the Month for October after becoming the first Ugandan female boxer to win gold at the Africa Boxing Championships.

Nagawa beat competition from Muzamir Kakande and Samuel Nsubuga to claim the monthly accolade.

In table tennis, Joseph Ssebatindira was named the Table Tennis Real Star of the Month.

The winners received cash prizes and plaques at the ceremony organised by Real Stars Sports Agency, with Fortebet Uganda and Jude Colour Solutions as the main sponsors.

Kyaggwe’s strong representation made them the standout county at the awards, capping a memorable period following their breakthrough Masaza Cup triumph.
