In a thrilling display of talent and determination, Ochen Peter, a rising star from the Baby Cricket Cranes, showcased his prowess for Soroti City Cricket, guiding them to their second consecutive victory of the day.

A product of the Soroti City Cricket Academy, Ochen Peter’s return to his hometown club after representing Jinja SS Cricket Club speaks volumes about his commitment to his roots.

Having been part of the Under-19 team that played during the World Cup qualifiers in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and contributing to Jinja SS’s triumph in the Boys’ School Cricket Week last year, Peter brings invaluable experience to his team.

In the second game, with Twijukye Emmanuel leading as captain, Soroti City won the toss and elected to bat first, but suffered an early setback with the loss of Apollo Jospeh in the second over. However, Ochen Peter’s arrival at number five revitalized the innings.

His blistering knock of 72 runs off just 23 balls, including three sixes and five fours, not only stabilized the innings but also propelled his strike rate to an impressive 167.

Noteworthy was the precision and timing of his shots, reflecting his exceptional talent and technique.

Supporting contributions from Juma Sururu (21 off 18), Okiror Stephen (17 off 12) on his debut for Soroti City, and captain Ebulu Ronald (15 off 13) helped the team post a competitive total of 151/6 in 20 overs.

Buddo Cricket Club displayed commendable bowling prowess, with Leon Kigozi, Affan Ahmed Khan, and Thawi Philip each claiming two wickets but the damage had already been done.

In the chase, Buddo’s seasoned player Rashid Mukasa (41 off 25) and Orumo Gerald (35 off 32) appeared to be steering their team towards victory.

However, the exceptional fielding efforts of Soroti City, including a crucial run-out by Apollo Jospeh and a brilliant catch by debutant Okiror Stephen, turned the tide in their favor.

Despite a valiant effort, Buddo fell short, finishing at 145/9 after 20 overs and Soroti managed to win the game by a mere 6 runs.

Debutant Derrick Bakunzi led the bowling attack for Soroti City, claiming three wickets, supported by Juma Sururu’s three-wicket haul and captain Ebulu Ronald’s two scalps.

Soroti City Cricket Club clinched victory earlier in the day against Buddo, securing an impressive win by 8 wickets.

Their triumph in the afternoon match propelled them to second place on the table, drawing level on points with Avengers Cricket Club.

Despite being tied on points, Avengers currently holds the top spot with a superior net run rate.

The stage is set for an intense showdown tomorrow as Avengers Cricket Club and Soroti Cricket Club battle it out at Lugogo Cricket Oval to determine who will claim the top position after second week of the league.

Reflecting on the team’s success, Soroti Cricket Academy manager, Mr. Ssekyewa Richard, extended a warm welcome to the debutants, acknowledging their valuable contributions.

Manager Ssekyewa while welcoming the debutants to the team.

He particularly praised Ochen Peter for his outstanding performance as the player of the match in the second game.

Furthermore, Mr. Richard expressed his enthusiasm for the addition of all-rounder Bakunzi Derrick to the team, emphasizing the wealth of experience he brings to the squad.

He expressed hope that Derrick will remain with the club for the foreseeable future, contributing to the development of academy graduates and enhancing the team’s overall performance.
