The Stanbic Black Pirates and sister club Black Pearls Rugby Clubs win the men and women 2022 Nile Special national Rugby 7’s series (Wakiso 7’s) respectively.

This was the first of a two day circuit of the many and it was held at the Kings Park Arena in Bweyogerere. Black Pirates beat up on Impis Rugby Club 15-00 to win the circuit.

Like many within the rugby circles had predicted, perennial local rugby sevens favourites struggled out on the field on the opening day of the 2022 Nile Special Rugby 7’s Series.

Kobs, Pirates and Heathens missed the services of their key Sevens players who are on national duty with the Men’s Sevens or still recovering from the 15’s Rugby Africa Cup in France.

The defending champions Kobs are the most affected by this player absence due to the 7’s,15’s and dis agreements in  the club’s political corridors.

They beat Impis by three tries 17-14 in Pool A but were unshockingly beaten by new league side  Walukuba Barbarians 22-15

For Heathens and Pirates, they won all their games in their respective Pools but Heathens didn’t go past the quarterfinals on the second day falling to Pirates.

Makerere side Impis also did have no mercy for Jinja side Hippos hitting them 10-05, Rams also taking Warriors to school, 27-07 just like Buffaloes who put out the defending Champions Kobs 15-05.

To make up a semi final of hosts Pirates up against and Toyota Buffaloes which they won by a four try margin just like Impis who silenced Rams 17-12 in the second semi-finals.

Buffaloes’ Aaron Tukei won the Most Valuable Player of the Wakiso 7’s series on the men’s side.

On the women’s side with Black Pearl’s winning the series, it was Avengers Rugby Club’s Captain Peace Lekuru who was named the Most Valuable Player of the Central Women’s Wakiso 7’s.
