NSSF-KAVC Tournament: APR wins both men’s and women’s titles


Rwandese side Armée Patriotique Rwandaise (APR) Volleyball Club has won both the men’s and women’s at the 24 edition of the NSSF-KAVC International Tournament.

This is after the men’s side defeated KAVC 3-2 in the final while the women’s team also overcame KCCA 3-2 in the last tournament games played on Sunday 7th, August at Lugogo Indoor Stadium in Kampala.

APR women won the first two sets ( 25-19, 27-25), but KCCA fought back to win set 3 ( 20-25) and 4 ( 25-26) to set up a decider.

Into the decider, APR started off well and opened up a four points lead midway the set (8-4). KCCA fought back to make it 14-all but APR did enough to win the set 16-14 and eventually win the title.

Just like the women’s final, the men’s final also was decided in the fifth set.

APR won the first set 25-23, but KAVC came back to win two successive sets ( 25-19, 25-19) to take the 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set.

But APR rose from the dead to win the fourth 25-20 to force a 5th decisive set

Just like the women, APR Men held off KAVC in the decider to win 15-12 and secure their third ever NSSF- KAVC International title. The Rwandan side won their first in 2005 before their second in 2018.

NSSF Uganda injected Shs.70m into this year’s 3-day tourney which attract over 20 clubs from the Central and East Africa region.
