Jinja SS 2-1 Lango College
In a decisive match held at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru, Nabumali High School defeated Nganwa High School 3-0 to secure the championship in the second edition of the FUFA TV Cup.
Nabumali’s victory was underscored by their early offensive, with Gerald Ochwo opening the scoring in the 6th minute, followed swiftly by Edwin Wakoli’s goal in the 13th minute.
The first half concluded with Nabumali leading 2-0.
Nganwa struggled throughout the match, failing to win aerial duels and control the tempo of the game.
In the 60th minute, Wakoli struck again, sealing the win for Nabumali with a third goal.
Nabumali’s path to the finals was marked by a notable comeback against Lango College, winning 3-1, while Nganwa secured their final berth by narrowly defeating Jinja SS 1-0.
Historically, Nabumali High School has been a dominant force in Ugandan high school football, and this triumph reaffirms their return to prominence.
The inaugural FUFA TV Cup last year was won by St. Mary’s College Kisubi, who edged out Kiira College Butiiki 2-1.
This year, the competition featured 65 schools, with 63 qualifying automatically and two, Nganwa High School Kabwohe and St. Kagwa Bushenyi High School, advancing from the preliminary rounds.
The tournament was structured into home-and-away legs across 12 geographic chapters to streamline travel, culminating in the top 8 teams competing at the FUFA Technical Center.
These teams were divided into two groups, with the top two from each advancing to the semifinals.
In an added touch of tradition, last year’s top scorer, Gift Fred Mutalya from Kiira College Butiki, presented the new FUFA TV Cup trophy at the final.
Nabumali High School’s spirited support, including a busload of students and staff, contrasted with the backing Nganwa High School received from alumni, adding a vibrant atmosphere to the encounter.
The final, featuring a matchup between a school from the east and one from the west, lived up to its billing as an exciting and historic clash.
