Great Lakes Men’s T20 – Match Day Seven Review

Day Seven of the Great Lakes Men’s T20 at Lugogo Cricket Oval delivered another entertaining double-header, highlighted by a record-breaking batting display from Mburo Blasters in the morning and a dominant all-round performance from Victoria Strikers in the afternoon.

Mburo Blasters edged Kyoga Avengers in a high-scoring thriller, while Victoria Strikers extended their winning run with a convincing victory over Bunyonyi Warriors.

Blasters post record total as Musemeza leads the charge

Put in to bat first, Mburo Blasters unleashed their strongest batting performance of the tournament, piling up a massive 234/6 in 20 overs.

The innings revolved around a brilliant knock from Charles Musemeza, who struck 75 off 40 balls, finding the boundary with ease through eight fours and four sixes. He was well supported by Fahad Mutagana (37) before Riazat Ali Shah provided late fireworks, smashing 54 from just 24 deliveries, including six towering sixes.

The finishing touches came from Steven Wabwose (20)* and *Edwin Nuwagaba (21)**, pushing the total beyond the 230-mark and setting a daunting target.

Despite the batting onslaught, Gerald Olipa stood out for Kyoga Avengers with a five-wicket haul, finishing with 5/50.

Kyoga’s chase began shakily, losing two early wickets inside the first two overs. However, Cyrus Kakuru revived hopes with a fluent 77 off 43 balls, supported by Ronald Lutaaya (33) and a quick burst from Robert Owili (23 off 8). Skipper Juma Miyaji added an unbeaten 45, but the required rate kept climbing.

Mburo’s bowling attack held firm under pressure. Steven Wabwose (2/22) led the effort with discipline, while Sowobi Yunus and Riazat Ali Shah claimed two wickets each to restrict Kyoga to 208/6, sealing a 26-run win.

Charles Musemeza was named Player of the Match for his match-defining half-century.

Strikers continue resurgence with dominant win

The afternoon fixture saw Victoria Strikers maintain their upward form, overpowering Bunyonyi Warriors by 59 runs.

Batting first, the Strikers came out aggressively, led by a sensational start from Simon Ssesazi, who hammered 58 off just 24 balls, including eight fours and three sixes. The momentum was carried forward by Ahurra Amos (40 off 34), while Robert Ajuna (19) and Mathew Musinguzi (22 off 11)* added valuable late contributions to take the total to a commanding 218/8.

Despite picking up wickets at regular intervals, Bunyonyi struggled with control, conceding 20 wides, which proved costly. Johnathan Nyiiro picked up 3 wickets, while Musa Majid Ramathan and Kassim Adam chipped in with breakthroughs.

Chasing a steep target of 219, Bunyonyi showed early intent through Robinson Obuya and Anas Baig, but wickets in clusters derailed their progress. Joseph Baguma (31) and Anas Baig (30) offered resistance, while Ramathan remained unbeaten on 18, but the chase lost shape quickly.

Victoria’s bowling unit shared the spoils. Skipper Pius Oloka delivered a standout spell of 4/14, while Jaffer Ochaya matched him with another four-wicket haul. Support came from Christopher Kidega and Mathew Musinguzi, each striking once as Bunyonyi were bowled out for 159 in 18 overs.

Simon Ssesazi earned Player of the Match honours for his explosive start that set up the victory.
