The Uganda U20 football team head coach Morley Byekwaso has revealed that his primary target is to guide Hippos to the upcoming CECAFA U20 AFCON qualifiers finals in Tanzania.
The 20-man Hippos’ team travelled to Arusha, Tanzania yesterday Friday for the CECAFA U20 tournament that will commence on Monday and the KCCA FC coach says his team like all Uganda’s teams goes into the tournament with just one target – making it to the finals.
“My primary target just like any other Ugandan is to see that the team reaches to the final of this tournament. If this is achieved, we shall then rest assured of the ticket to play in the AFCON finals tournament in Mauritania,” Byekwaso told the FUFA website.
The U-20 tournament that also serves as the AFCON U-20 qualifiers, will be hosted between November 22nd and December 6th in Tanzania.
Uganda’s Hippos who are pitted in group B, will start their journey on Monday evening against South Sudan at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Memorial Stadium.
Meanwhile, also the Hippos gaffer has named Gavin Kizito Mugweri as captain of the Under 20 side.
“As a coach I have looked at the player’s quality and his leadership skills to take the team ahead. He is a very responsible player and he is the captain of the team. I have confidence and belief in him,” Byekwaso stated when asked.
