Dad provided exceptional support in my football journey – Matovu Victor


22 year old, Spanish – based footballer Matovu Victor has testified that his father has provided the biggest support to the gradual growth of the career.

Matovu tags the father, Wasswa Alex as his personal trainer and role model with whom he also trains to keep fit.

The father is a former Ugandan footballer who played at the famous 80’s Coffee Football Club in the Uganda Premier League.

“My dad has provided exceptional support to me in the football journey. The father is my number one role model and personal trainer when I get back home.” Matovu who was born in Uganda opens up.

Matovu is currently stationed at Real Oviedo in Oviedo, Asturias having also previously featured at Getafe U19 team, CE Júpiter U21 team in the Tercera División, Spain and Aspire Academy in Senegal.

He kick-started his education journey at Bethel Primary School in Makindye, Kampala, went on to Kibuye Primary School to complete his Primary School.

In high school, he studied at City Campus High School and Mukono talents, before shifting to Dynamic Secondary School still in Mukono.

Note that In all the schools, Matovu was studying for free because of the massive talent he holds.

Matovu was summoned to the Uganda U-20 COSAFA Championships that were played in Zambia.

The versatile defender confessed the experience he got from the tournament opened up his eyes wholesomely.

“The experience at the tournament was fun and very tough as well. With one or two training sessions before a game, lots of technical work, this was fresh experience although a little similar to that in the U17 camp I was in years before. The players were very nice to me and some even knew me before.” Matovu recollects

During the global lock-down due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Matovu had internal work-outs  that included physical work-outs and ball work.

During his free time, he cherishes to play the PS4 FIFA Games with friends as well as go spend life with family.

Matovu kicked off his career at a tender age of five in Makindye. He has since grasped to the brim the football basics as ball control, passing, shooting, heading, dribbling as well as off the ball movements.

Internationally, Matovu admires Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo with a dream to play for Real Oviedo senior team as well as the Uganda Senior national team, Uganda Cranes.
