Loris Karius helped stop Bayern hitting the back of the net for the first time in 60 competitive matches, ending their remarkable scoring streak.

Karius denied Nathaniel Brown early on, saved sharply from Michael Olise on the hour, and then produced a stunning late stop to parry Harry Kane’s fierce drive from distance, earning him 68 per cent of the Man of the Match vote.

His crucial blocks gave him a 3.1 xSaves rating, which indicates the probability of a shot on goal being saved. Each shot is analysed individually, accounting for the trajectory of the ball, the distance of the striker, the angle to the goal, and the precise position of the goalkeeper.

The probability that the keeper will make the save is calculated in real time using data compiled from around 20,000 past shots on goal since the 2018-19 Bundesliga season.

Keeper Efficiency is the cumulation of individual values: if the number of successful saves a goalkeeper makes in a certain period exceeds the cumulative xSaves value of shots on their goal, this goalkeeper has a positive Keeper Efficiency.
