Kitara FC have received a major boost ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup campaign after the Government of Uganda, through State Minister for Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang, granted the club permission to use Hoima City Stadium for their continental home matches.

The announcement was made during celebrations following Kitara FC’s triumph in the 2025/26 Stanbic Uganda Cup, where Minister Ogwang officially presented the trophy to the club.

The Royals secured their place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup after defeating 2-1 in the Uganda Cup final at last month.

Addressing jubilant supporters, Ogwang hailed Kitara’s achievement and the significance of the trophy.

“This is the oldest cup competition in Uganda, and it goes to the children of Kabalega who won the competition,” Ogwang said.

“They have asked me formally; they want to hand you, as a daughter of Kabalega, this cup so that we appreciate the role of the children of Kabalega.”

The minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Kitara FC’s participation in continental football.

“I have also committed on your behalf, on behalf of government, that they are going to play football at the continental level,” Ogwang stated.

“We will be able to give them a facility come September to host an international game here in Hoima City. We shall give them Hoima City Stadium.”

The development comes as welcome news for the Royals and football fans across the Bunyoro sub-region, who have long awaited the opportunity to watch continental club football in Hoima.

The approval follows ongoing government efforts to improve sports infrastructure in the oil city and across the country.

For Kitara FC, hosting CAF Confederation Cup matches in Hoima will allow the club to play closer to its passionate fan base rather than seeking an alternative venue elsewhere in Uganda. The move is expected to provide a significant home advantage as the Royals prepare for the start of their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
