Junior Gazelles win final game to qualify the 2022 FIBA U18 Afrobasket

The Junior Gazelles( U-18 Girls basketball team) , the Junior Gazelles won against Tanzania on Saturday to go past the FIBA Zone Five U18 Afrobasket Preliminaries 2022 at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium, Kampala.

The young ladies won their final game on a 20 point margin, 63-43 helping the team qualify for the 2022 FIBA U18 Afrobasket finals in Madagascar.

This will be Uganda’s fourth time at the tournament and this time it will start on 23rd July and end on 7th August at the chosen venue, Mahamasina Sports Palace in Antananarivo.

With a perfect first quarter of a twice multiplied lead, the two sides had a balanced second quarter thanks to Sylivia Nantongo who put up 17 points and 11 rebounds.

The other names that shined on the day were Mariam Namukwaya (10 points), Gertrude Nyamutooro (10 points) while for Tanzania Anjela Minja was their best on the day with (10 points and 12 rebounds)

The top two teams in Madagascar will qualify for the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup in Madrid, Spain on 15th July- 23, July 2023.

On the side of the boys Tanzania once again was beaten by Unbeaten Rwanda 84-49 to win The U18 Boys Afrobasket qualification to Madagascar.
