The Uganda Police Force (UPF) has handed long-distance runner and multiple world record holder Joshua Cheptegei a promotional rank for his exploits in the recent world athletic competitions/events.

The 24-year old has been promoted from the rank of Inspector of Police (IP) to Assistant Superintendent of Police ( ASP) in the Ugandan Police Force.

The revelation was confirmed by the Uganda Police’s Spokesman, Fred Enanga during their weekly press briefing on Monday morning at the Media Center, Kampala.

In 2018, Cheptegei was promoted four ranks up in the police hierarchy from the Police Constable to the rank of Inspector of Police (IP) after winning the 5000m gold medal at the Common Wealth Games in Australia.

Two years on, the Ugandan hero has been promoted further up after his world record stellar performance in Valencia where he broke Bekele’s 10,000m world record that stood for almost 15 years.

Furthermore, according to Enanga, the sports facility at the Police training center will also be named after the record-breaking Ugandan runner.
