Sand Cranes head coach Salim Jamal Muwonge is eager for his boys to put up an outstanding performance at the 2021 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (BSAFCON) tournament in Senegal
Uganda will be featuring at the continental showpiece for the first time in history and made it to Senegal after their opponents in the final qualification phase Ghana withdrew.
A team of 18 players and 5 officials entered camp at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru on Sunday morning and had one training session.
“Our target in these training sessions is to work on players endurance, we want their bodies to respond and I think by the end of these training sessions they will be ready for the final tournament” Jamal Salim Muwoge said after the first training session.
Uganda is pitted in group A alongside the hosts Senegal, Tanzania and DR Congo who are also making their debut appearance. Group B has teams with experience at the tournament the likes of Egypt, Mozambique, Morocco and Seychelles.
The tournament will take place in the city of Salt in Senegal from the 23rd–29th May 2021.
Uganda had the chance to host the tournament at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru last yet but later pulled out due to the high rise in water level at the shores of Lake Victoria coupled by the impacts of COVID-19 pandemic
This ournament will also work as a qualification route to the 2021 FIFA Beach Soccer World cup as the winner and the runners up will represent Africa at the final world cup tournament.
