Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo on Saturday won a gold medal at the 2023 World Cross Country Championship in Bathurst, Australia.
He clocked 29:17 to beat off Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi and compatriot Joshua Cheptegei, who scooped Silver and bronze respectively
Kiplimo becomes the second Ugandan to win gold in the Men’s Senior Category at the IAAF World Cross Country Championship after Cheptegei won the 2019 gold in Denmark.
The youngster now holds the cross-country and Half-marathon titles. He won the Half-marathon title in 2020 in Gdynia, Poland – setting a Ugandan and Championship record.
Kiplimo, who finished second four years ago is a 2020 Tokyo Olympic 10,000 metres bronze medalist and also won bronze in the event at the 2022 World Athletics Championships.
The 22-year old also earned gold medals in the 5000m and 10,000m at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
