Iconic sports journalist Ismail Dhakaba Kigongo has vowed to create a sports community at Nation Media Group (NMG) after being a new lease of life into what he usually describes as his way of life Sport and journalism.
Having left the media company in 2018 to take up a lucrative role at the National Council of Sports (NCS) as the head of Corporate Affairs, and a failed stint in Politics following thereafter, Dhakaba returned to NMG as the company’s head of Sports.
Speaking to The Touchline Sports, Dhakaba appreciates how media has changed and vows to create a sports community at National Media Group Uganda.
“The media landscape has changed a lot from when I first walked into a newsroom in 2007,” he notes before adding,
“We need to evolve and my job is to help journalism evolve and also support the sports industry to do better today than yesterday.”
“I hope I can make a contribution to the two things I am most passionate about – sports and journalism.”
“First of all, it’s a good thing that I am here to lead the transformation of NMG Uganda from traditional platforms to the digital era.”
“It’s a task that we as a team are going to embrace and create a sports community.”
Ismail Dhakaba Kigongo started his media career in 2007 at NMG’s Daily Monitor before joining Radio one and Akaboozi ku bbiri Radio Stations in 2009. He has also previously worked with Radio One and Channel 44.
