Farouk Miya is back where it all began, ten years after leaving Vipers SC to chase his European dream, the Uganda Cranes forward has returned to the Kitende club ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Vipers confirmed the signing on Tuesday, describing it as the return of one of the club’s greatest products.
“We are pleased to announce the return of Farouk Miya to the club ahead of the 2026/27 season,” the club said in a statement.
Miya’s return brings back a player who helped shape Vipers’ rise. During his first spell, he was instrumental in the club winning the 2014/15 Uganda Premier League title, scoring 20 goals in 49 appearances.
His performances for Vipers and the Uganda Cranes earned him a move to Belgian side Standard Liège in January 2016.
The reported $400,000 transfer fee became a landmark moment for the club, helping fund the early development of St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Over the next decade, Miya built his career across Europe. He played for Standard Liège and Royal Excel Mouscron in Belgium, HNK Gorica in Croatia, Səbail FK in Azerbaijan, Turkish clubs Konyaspor and Çaykur Rizespor, and most recently Greek side Ilioupoli GS.
He returns home as one of Uganda’s most experienced footballers. The attacking midfielder has made 79 appearances for the Uganda Cranes, scoring 23 goals, and is expected to add leadership, creativity and experience to a Vipers side preparing to defend its league title and compete in continental football.
