Greenhill Academy top the Primary Schools Gala


The 8th Primary Schools’ Swimming Gala that organized by the Uganda Swimming Federation ended on a high as host Greenhill Academy coming out on top at the Greenhill Academy pool in Namuwongo on Saturday.

The one event consisted of 60 competitive races with Greenhill Academy defending their crown on a score of 1243.5 after an outstanding performance display. Kampala Junior School, Pax Junior School Kira came in second and third place respectively with 816.5 and 672.5 points.

After the event we had a chat with one of the day’s winners Keysha Mwanji Karen from Salfish Swimming Club , who started her journey at the age of eight (8) and how happy she was to be among the winners;

“My name is Keysha Mwanji Karen from Tree Shade Primary School, 12 years from Salfish swimming Club and I won all my five (5) races” she said

“I have come a long way because I have been swimming for around four years but I appreciate my coaches for putting alot of pressure on me to work hard” she added

“Today I won gold medals and it’s the first time it has happened and want to go back, train and work harder so that I can also get an individual trophy.”

“I attribute my medals my coach and mum because mum was the first person to train me, took me to a swim club and Mr Joseph Kabogooza (coach) carried on from there hence making me a different swimmer.” she concluded.

Mwanji won the 50 SC metre back stroke, 50 SC metre breast stroke, 50 SC metre butterfly, 50 SC metre freestyle and 100 SC metre IM.

cheers from parents of the different individuals and schools, the competition showed that there was alot interest growing among the parents and Ugandan primary schools an act that was also sighted by the Uganda Swimming Federation officials.

The officials appreciated the swimmers for their outstanding performance and applauded the schoolsv commitment in promoting the sport.
