Amidst all rumors that he could leave the Kitende based side, Geoffrey Wasswa is close to agreeing on a new contract with the StarTimes UPL defending champions Vipers SC.
The highly-rated versatile defender’s contract is set to expire in July, but according to reports at St Mary’s stadium, the Club and defender are close to an agreement that will see the player put pen to paper on a three-year deal until 2023.
Wasswa kicked off his career with the Venoms in 2015, having been promoted from the St. Mary’s SS – Kitende, a feeder school to Vipers SC but his career has been marred by injuries.
Last season, he featured only 13-times in the league for the Venoms, 12 as a captain, and helped his team keep seven clean sheets in the process.
Wasswa has been recently linked to a move to Lugogo based side, KCCA FC, Wakiso Giants FC.
If he stays at the St. Mary’s, he will have to compete with Rashid Toha, Bashir Asiku, Halid Lwalilwa, Jacob Okao, and Ahmed Amayo for a place in the starting XI.
Vipers won the 2019/20 StarTimes UPL, their fourth since being promoted to Uganda’s first division in 2006.
