Kisoro District erupted into celebration after SC Volcanoes were officially crowned champions of the Western Regional League following a commanding 5-0 victory over Kihihi Young Boys FC in the final match of the season.

The Mutolere-based side sealed the title in emphatic fashion, completing an unbeaten campaign with 52 points and an impressive goal difference of 45, underlining their dominance throughout the season.

A sensational hat trick from team captain Mandela Alex inspired Volcanoes to a memorable triumph in front of jubilant supporters who filled the stadium to witness a historic moment for football in Kisoro.

Volcanoes Deliver Statement Performance

SC Volcanoes wasted little time asserting themselves after kickoff, controlling possession and dictating the pace through an energetic midfield performance led by Fiat.

Their breakthrough arrived in the 12th minute when Mandela Alex rose to connect perfectly from a Muheirwe set piece before calmly slotting home to hand the hosts an early advantage.

The pressure continued to mount on Kihihi Young Boys as Volcanoes attacked relentlessly from wide areas and set-piece situations.

Muheirwe Devis, popularly known as Ronaldo, doubled the lead in the 24th minute with a composed finish before Mandela Alex struck twice more before halftime to complete his hat trick and send the home crowd into wild celebrations as Volcanoes headed into the break leading 4-0.

Kihihi Young Boys attempted to regroup after the restart and enjoyed more possession during the second half, creating several attacking opportunities through their midfield movements and wide play.

However, Volcanoes’ disciplined defensive structure remained solid throughout the contest, denying the visitors any breakthrough despite multiple corners and attacking phases.

The hosts continued to threaten on transitions with Babuji leading dangerous forward runs as the match approached its conclusion.

Rukyamuzi Julius then completed the rout in the 89th minute, scoring the fifth goal of the afternoon and taking his season tally to 18 goals.

The final whistle confirmed SC Volcanoes as Western Regional League champions while Kihihi Young Boys’ defeat sealed their relegation to the fourth division after finishing 10th on the table.

Speaking after the victory, head coach Patrick Ochan said the club’s attention has now shifted toward the upcoming FUFA Big League playoffs.

Ochan revealed that the technical team is waiting for FUFA to officially confirm playoff dates, adding that the squad is fully prepared for the next challenge.

Despite the dominant campaign, the coach noted that the team would continue improving its attacking efficiency and tactical organization ahead of the expected playoff clash against Booma FC, champions of the Kitara Regional League.

He praised the squad for completing the season unbeaten while conceding only three goals and dedicated the title to supporters across Kisoro and the wider western region.

SC Volcanoes Vice President Flight Captain Arthur Mugisha Rucakatsi described the championship as a major step in the club’s long-term ambition of reaching Uganda’s top flight football divisions.

He applauded the technical bench and players for their consistency and commitment throughout the season while revealing plans to establish a women’s football team and a football academy as part of the club’s future development strategy.

Rucakatsi also highlighted several empowerment initiatives aimed at equipping players with practical skills beyond football.

Club captain Mandela Alex echoed the club’s ambitions, saying the players remain committed to guiding SC Volcanoes to the FUFA Big League and beyond.

He credited the club management for supporting players financially, describing it as a key factor behind the squad’s motivation and consistency this season.

Kisoro District LC5 Chairperson Richard Ndyana congratulated SC Volcanoes and praised the club leadership for promoting youth talent and elevating the profile of Kisoro through sport.

He pledged continued support toward the club as it prepares for the next stage of competition in Ugandan football.

The championship celebrations were attended by FUFA Western Region officials, district leaders, the Resident District Commissioner, the Kisoro Municipality Mayor, and other dignitaries who joined supporters in marking the club’s historic achievement.
