Diaspora: Sandra Nabweteme nets maiden goal for Thor/KA, Joseph Ochaya assists for TP Mazembe – how Uganda professionals abroad fared over the weekend


Sandra Nabweteme netted her maiden goal for her side in Iceland while Joseph Ochaya provided an assist in Congo as league action continued over the weekend that had many Ugandan players abroad in action.

Here is how the Ugandan players abroad fared with their respective teams.

Starting off in Scotland, Bevis Mugabi was out injured as his Motherwell FC lost 2-1 with Ross County in the last game of the 2020/21 Scottish Premiership season.

Motherwell finished the season second top of the relegation group with 46 points garnered in 38 games.

In Denmark, Moses Opondo was introduced on in the 62nd minute and helped his side, Odense Boldkub secure a 2-all stalemate with Vejle BK in the Danish Superliga.Odense currently sits third of the relegation table and have already sealed their stay in the league next season, having garnered 37 points in 30 games.

Still in the Danish Superliga, Robert Kakeeto wasn’t in the Matchday squad as his AaB Aalborg side drew 1-all with Horsens to remain top of the relegation group of the Danish Superliga.

In Turkey, Farouk Miya was once again an unused substitute as his Konyaspor SC drew goalless with Antalyaspor in the last game of the  Turkish Superlig. Miya has not featured in any of Konyaspor’s last nine games.

Konyaspor finished the season in 11th position with 50 points in 40 games.

In Sweden, Ritah Kivumbi was a second half substitute as her Mallbacken IF suffered a 3-1 defeat to Uppsala in the Swedish Elitetan.

In Czech republic, Edirisa Lubega started and  featured for 92 minutes as his side, Pribram FC claimed a 1-0 victory over Jablonec in the Czech First league. Pribram FC now sits third bottom with 24 points in 32 games, two points below the survival line.

In the Czech National Football league, former KCCA wingback Isaac Muleme featured full-time as his side, Viktoria Zizkov suffered a 3-2 loss to Jihlava. Zizkov sits 4th on the log with 36 points in 24 games.

In USA, former KCCA wingback Mustafa Kizza played the last 10 minutes but couldn’t stop his Montreal Impact side from suffered a 1-0 loss to Atlanta United courtesy of Marcelino Moreno late winner.

Still in the MSL, Edward Kizza was an unused substitute as his side, New England Revolution secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Columbus SC to move top of the Eastern Conference Standings.

In the United Premier Soccer league, Ian Sendi was on target for FC Minneapolis as they suffered a 2-1 loss to Minneapolis City SC.

In Iceland, Sandra Nabweteme scored her first goal in the Iceland Pepsi Max Women’s League as her side Thor/KA lost 3-1 to Breidablik. Nabweteme netted her side’s consolation in the 56th minutes of the game.

In the CAF Champions league, Denis Onyango started in goal for Mamelodi Sundown as they were defeated 2-0 by Al Ahly in the first leg of the quarter-finals.Taher Mohamed and Salah Mohsen netted the two goals for the Egyptian Premier league side.

In the other quarter-final, Taddeo Lwanga featured full-time as his side, Simba SC suffered an humiliating 4-0 loss to Kaizer Chiefs away in South Africa.

In Tanzania, Nicholas Wadada and Mathias Kigonya featured full-time as their Azam FC side claimed a 2-1 victory over KMC in the Vodacom Tanzanian Premier league.

Boban Ziritusa was an unused substitute for Mtibwa Sugar as they secured a narrow 1-0 victory over TP SC.

In Kenya, Hashim Ssempala skipped Tusker FC to a goalless stalemate with KCB FC in the Betking Kenyan Premier league. Tusker sit top of the log with 37 points in 17 games.

Benjamin Ocean started in goal and kept a cleansheet as his side, AFC Leopard secured a slim 1-0 victory over Nzoia Sugar to go second with 32 points in 15 games

William Wadri was on target for Bandari FC in the 72nd minute as they drew 1-all with Bidco United. Umar Kasumba was also introduced on at halftime.

In Zambia, Shafik Batambuze featured for Kabwe Warriors as they suffered a 2-1 loss to Kitwe United in the MTN Zambian Premier league.

In Egypt, Derrick Nsibambi was introduced on in the 59th minute as his side, Smouha SC drew 1-all with Cleopatra Ceramica in the Egyptian Premier league.

Still in the Egyptian Premier league, Emmanuel Okwi featured for 64 minutes as his Al Ittihad Alexandra side drew 1-1 with El Gaish.

Both Khalid Aucho and Allan Kyambadde didn’t make the Matchday squads for their respective teams as El Makkasa drew goalless  El Gouna in the Egyptian Premier league.

In Congo, Joseph Ochaya provided an assist for Adam Bossu Nzali as his side, Tp Mazembe claimed a 3-1 victory over AS Vita in the Vodacom Linafoot to go top of the log with 63 points in 27 games .
