CECAFA U23: Uganda crushes out after stalemate with Tanzania

The Uganda U23 team, the Kobs have crushed out from this year’s CECAFA U23 Challenge Cup tournament.

This is after they failed to defeat Tanzania in their last group game A played at the Bahir Dar international Stadium, Ethiopia

The Kobs played out to a 1-all stalemate against their neighbors.

From the start, Uganda were the brightest but were dealt a huge blow after Steven Mukwala missed from the penalty spot in the opening twenty minutes.

Tanzania then used their chances and took the game’s lead in the 31st minute as Israel Bajana converted from the spot.

Uganda were handed another chance and this time in open play, Mukwala made no mistake than striking past Boniface Metacha and into the back of the net.

The game went into the break with scores tied at 1-all

Knowing that Uganda needed nothing other than a win to qualify, the Kobs pressed for the winner but the Tanzanian backline remained rock solid throughout the closing half to ensure the game ended in a stalemate.

With the result, Uganda have been eliminated at the group stages with two points garnered in two games

While Tanzania has progressed to the semi finals as the best team in group A with four points

Uganda will play in the classification matches to determine where they finish in this tournament.
