SC Villa saw their Uganda Premier League title ambitions suffer another setback on Friday afternoon after being held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by BUL FC at the Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
The result leaves the Jogoos with little room for error in the closing weeks of the season after failing to capitalize on home advantage in a tense Matchday 27 encounter.
Villa came into the contest desperate to respond following their recent 2-0 defeat to Kitara FC, and head coach Željko Kovačević named an attacking lineup featuring Patrick Kakande, Frank Ssebuufu, and Hassan Mubiru.
The hosts dominated possession early on but struggled to break down a compact BUL side that remained disciplined throughout the afternoon. Kakande emerged as Villa’s main creative outlet, frequently dropping deep to dictate play and drive the team forward.
Despite Villa’s territorial dominance, clear-cut chances remained limited in a cagey first half. Ssebuufu forced a smart save from the BUL goalkeeper during Villa’s brightest spell, but the visitors continued to frustrate the home crowd with organized defending and quick transitions.
The intensity increased after the break as Villa pushed more numbers forward in search of a breakthrough. Several late set-pieces and crosses into the box created pressure in the closing stages, but BUL’s backline stood firm to secure an important away point.
The draw moves SC Villa to 52 points from 27 matches, leaving them in fourth place and potentially further behind league leaders Vipers SC, who were scheduled to face URA FC later in the evening.
Villa now face a difficult run-in with fixtures against Mbarara FC, NEC FC, and UPDF FC still to come.
For BUL FC, the point lifts them to 35 points and strengthens their position in mid-table after a season marked by inconsistency.
