Uganda Cranes Select 2-0 Kitara FC
BUL FC 0(6)- 0(5) SC Vipers
In a tense showdown at MTN Omondi Stadium, BUL FC successfully defended their FUFA Super Eight title, edging out Vipers SC 6-5 in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw that persisted through both regular and extra time.
Under the floodlights, the match unfolded as a battle of nerves and endurance, with both teams displaying tactical discipline but struggling to break the deadlock.
Bul’s victory marks their second consecutive FUFA Super Eight triumph, a testament to their growing stature in Ugandan football.
Bul FC, having defeated Kitara FC in the semifinals, entered the final with confidence boosted by a home and win record over the venoms last season.
On the other hand Vipers SC, who had overcome Uganda Cranes Select to reach this stage, were equally determined to claim the title.
The early moments of the match saw Bul almost capitalize on a set-piece opportunity in the 4th minute, but Nicholas Mwere’s free-kick sailed over the bar.
The physical nature of the game was evident, with both sides engaging in a gritty contest, leaving little room for creativity in the final third.
Vipers had their own chances, notably in the 12th minute when Wadada’s long-range effort was expertly tipped into the corner by Bul’s goalkeeper, Joel Mutakubwa.
A crucial interception by Enock Layima in the 23rd minute prevented Bul from taking the lead, showcasing the defensive resilience of both teams.
As the first half neared its end, Vipers had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock.
Karisa found himself one-on-one with the Bul keeper, but instead of going for goal, he opted for a pass, allowing the Bul defense to clear the danger.
The second half began with Vipers pushing for a breakthrough.
Kenneth Kimera missed a clear chance from close range, sending his effort over the bar.
Bul’s defense remained resolute, with the goalkeeper making a crucial save to deny Sukuya in a one-on-one situation.
With the match still goalless after 90 minutes, the tension only increased during extra time.
Vipers survived a scare in the first half of extra time, and in the second half, Kigundu’s save for the Venoms, followed by a rebound striking the woodwork, kept their hopes alive.
However, the drama reached its peak in the penalty shootout.
Bul FC held their nerve, converting all six of their penalties.
Vipers’ Enock Luyima, tasked with keeping his team in the contest, sent his shot over the bar, handing Bul a hard-fought victory.
Earlier on, the Uganda Cranes Select had defeated Kitara FC 2 goals nil to finish third in the Super eighy competition.
Both goals were scored by Mbarara City Football club’s Henry Kitegenyi
