Uganda National U20 men’s football team, the Hippos kicked off their AFCON U20 CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers with a 2-0 victory over Tanzania in Sudan.

Two first goals by Titus Tito Ssematimba and Rogers Mugisha were enough for Uganda to ensure that they secured victory over their neighbors.

Titus capitalized on poor defending in the 31st minute to break the deadlock before Mugisha doubled Hippo’s advantage three minutes after tapping in from close range after Ibrahim Kasinde’s cross.

The second half was dominated by Tanzania, who tried their level best to atleast pull a goal back but were denied on multiple occasions by Abdu Magada.

Uganda will be back in action next Saturday 5th November against Ethiopia, who will play their first group stages game against Tanzania on Wednesday.

Uganda are the defending champions of this tournament, having won the last edition held in Arusha, Tanzania.

After winning the tournament in Arusha, they qualified for the 2021 AFCON U20 in Mauritania where they were beaten by Ghana in the final.
